What Does It Mean to be a Republican in Montgomery County, Maryland

What Does it Mean to be a Republican in Montgomery County, Maryland?

I've just come back from spending time breaking bread (well actually it was lunch at a great little Thai restaurant in Derwood) with a great and politically active woman in the Republican Party.  Until now, I've focused my activities at the national level and never felt tied to my county political party.  With so many people living in Montgomery county who are involved in national politics, it occurs to me that I like many have not worked closely with my Republican Central Committee right here in Montgomery County, Maryland.

With a stronger Central Committee would we have some representation on our County Counsel?  Would we have our points of view represented in Annapolis?  Can we ever hope to have Republicans representing us again in Congress?  Montgomery County, Maryland is an economically, religiously, and culturally diverse county.  We should by all rights have a very strong and powerful political party here.  If however, most of the 120,000+ Republicans in the county are only focused on national politics, then we likely are not.

I hope that if you should read this piece you will share your comments on what it means to be a Republican in Montgomery County, Maryland.  I also hope you will share some ideas about how you think we as a 120,000 strong individuals can come together as a group and can become more effective in electing Republicans from our communities to all levels of government.

I look forward to your comments.  Laughing

Moshe Starkman Hi Elizabeth, this sounds great! I'm going to think about this is a little more and put something thoughts together.

Meyer Marks Dear Fellow Republicans,
On a personal note, I got involved in Republican politics at an early age, after receiving a personal phone call from the county chairman urging me to join the Central Committee. Since then I have been active in Republican politics, ever since taking on Clinton's Agenda in Ark, over 30 years ago. From my own personal experience in Montgomery county, after being a Republican candidate in 2008, not one person from any of the local GOP groups, have ever called, or emailed, inviting me to become more involved. I would have thought with my background and experience that my contribution would have been welcomed.
Our focus should be on out-reach, and recruiting candidates to run at all levels of government. We must be willing challenge ever Democrat in public office, this holds them accountable to the public. I see building the grass-roots, and learning to thank outside the box as vital for Our future in Maryland.
I am confident, Republican candidates can get elected in Maryland if we have a vision and remain positive. Now, it is my hope to earn your trust and confidence to serve you in the Maryland Senate. Please send me your comments or suggestions.
Respectfully Yours!

Kathryn Smith Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you for getting my attention back to what it means to be a Republican woman living in Montgomery County. Having moved back to Montgomery county, after having lived up and down the eastern states thanks to the Navy, I feel I have come 'full-circle in my life. I remember, as a child, women weren't visible in politics. Working life - 1980's - the Republican party put women in political - and respected positions. We, my husband & I survived the "Clinton years." President Bush helped up get back on our feet. But, I sometimes feel like I am fighting water here in Mont.Co. surrounded by Democrats & those who don't know what they are talking about. Fox TV, the internet & Radio have helped keep me sane. I must keep silent about the immoral grabbing hands of the left wing who are reaching for wallets of those who voted them in office. The will of the people know how to keep heart, family & home together. Democrats never seem to understand how resourceful, inventive, and quick suburban conservative Marylanders can be when activated.
Meyer Marks is right when he says that ". . .thinking outside the box. . ." is the way our grass-roots groups can work to out fox the Democrats, by using more than YouTube, Facebook, etc.
Sincerely,
Whippet, Bethesda, MD
